The Examination Boards Behind Every Advent Hope Qualification

Every grade a pupil earns at Advent Hope Academy is measured against an external standard. Here are the awarding bodies whose qualifications our pupils sit and what those qualifications mean in practice.

Why It Matters

A school that marks its own work tells you very little. A school whose pupils are assessed externally, against thousands of candidates worldwide, tells you something reliable. That independence is the source of the credibility our pupils carry into university applications and job interviews.

Advent Hope Academy

Every formal qualification our pupils earn is awarded by an independent body with its own standards, its own moderation processes, and its own global reputation. Advent Hope Academy pupils currently sit examinations and earn certifications through two external bodies. Each is described below.

Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE)

Cambridge Assessment International Education is the world's largest provider of international school qualifications, part of the University of Cambridge. Advent Hope Academy is a Cambridge International school, and the Cambridge pathway is the backbone of our High School academic programme.

Cambridge qualifications are set, marked and moderated in the United Kingdom, and every candidate in every centre worldwide is held to the same standard. Universities in Zimbabwe and across the world hold Cambridge results in high regard.

  • Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) - sat at the end of Form 4, covering the broad core of the curriculum and graded against candidates worldwide.
  • Cambridge International AS Level - typically sat at the midpoint of the Sixth Form and valued at half a full A Level, giving pupils a staged and less pressured route.
  • Cambridge International A Level - sat at the end of the Sixth Form and presented to universities as our pupils' flagship qualification.

Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC)

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council is the national examinations board, established to develop and administer qualifications at Ordinary (O) Level and Advanced (A) Level. ZIMSEC qualifications are recognised by tertiary institutions throughout Zimbabwe.

Alongside the Cambridge programme, the ZIMSEC framework informs our local curriculum, most visibly in Shona, where pupils follow the national syllabus. The two pathways are taught side by side, so pupils benefit from both a global and a national standard.

For pupils who go on to study locally at the University of Zimbabwe, NUST or Midlands State University, ZIMSEC qualifications are a familiar currency, and exposure to both examining cultures keeps every door open at home.
